The Religious Endowments Ministry is interrogating one of its imams in Monufiya who had claimed sainthood and printed books promoting the idea.
Mohamed Abdel Razek, a religious affairs official in the ministry, told Al-Masry Al-Youm interrogations were underway with Ayman al-Hosni, an imam from Shibin al-Kom, over accusations of claiming to be a saint and receiving orders from Prophet Muhammad in his sleep.
Abdel Razek added that a panel had been tasked with reviewing Hosni’s writings and that the imam was suspended from work.
