Thousands of imams and preachers protested on Sunday in front of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, decrying State Security's interventions in their work.
Demonstrators said the interventions extended to dictating preachers the topics of their Friday sermons.
They said the 25 January revolution has given them the hope of restoring job freedom, adding that they will submit a list of demands to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
The ousted regime of president Hosni Mubarak used mosques during the popular uprising to try and dissuade citizens from taking part in the protests.
Egypt's Ministry of Religious Endowments had issued a statement urging imams not to allow assemblies inside mosques.
