Disgruntled employees of state-run information centers clashed with security forces on Wednesday outside Egyptian Lawyers Syndicate headquarters in downtown Cairo.
Employees had been staging a protest to demand salary increases. Security forces intervened to prevent them from taking their demonstration to the nearby attorney-general's office.
Security forces prohibited journalists from covering the protest and subsequent clashes, prompting some photographers to snap pictures of the melee from the roof of the journalists syndicate next door.
On the same day, Khalid Ali, chairman of the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights, filed a complaint with the attorney-general against several high-ranking regime officials–including President Hosni Mubarak, Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, Finance Minister Boutros-Ghali and Economic Development Minister Othman Mohamed Othman–in which he demanded that the latter carry out a recent court order to raise the national minimum wage to reflect rising costs of living.
