Interior minister accepts resignations of three assistants

Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy accepted the resignations of three assistant ministers on Tuesday, all of whom are undergoing investigation on charges of financial irregularities.

The three officials who have stepped down are Mortada Ibrahim, assistant minister for technical affairs, Hassan Abdel Hamid, assistant minister for training, and Gehad Youssef, assistant minister for financial affairs. The latter had his term in office exented by six years after retirement by former minister Habib al-Adly.

The three assistant ministers are being investigated by the Illicit Gains Authority on charges of accruing fortunes by illegal means.

In related news, members of the police force are pressuring Essawy not to extend the service of officials beyond the age of retirement, which is currently set at 60.

Essawy said he met recently with members of the Police Coalition and agreed with them that they should dissolve the coalition in return for their demands being met.
