Interior Minister says ready to secure referendum through unprecedented plans

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said security services, in collaboration with the armed forces, will take measure to secure the constitutional referendum across all governorates, enforcing an unprecedented atmosphere of safety.

Accurate security plans have been drawn in collaboration with armed forces to secure polling stations as well as the roads leading to them, Ibrahim told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Tuesday, adding that troops will be deployed around all pivotal facilities.

Security services will deal strictly with riots and any attempts to “ruin” the roadmap, he noted.

Ibrahim also praised the level of training and armament of the troops as well as their ability to deal with recent incidents including riots at universities.

He called on troops to guarantee that the referendum takes place in a safe atmosphere so that all citizens will cast ballots, by  “exert[ing] the best efforts to make the serious steps taken by the country toward stability succeed.”
