Investigating judge in presidential election rigging case denies lifting immunity of Judges for Egypt Movement

Adviser Adel Idris, the investigating judge in the 2012 presidential election rigging case, has unequivocally denied media reports about lifting the immunity of the members of the Broterhood-affiliated group, Judges for Egypt Movement, during investigation.

“Investigating judges cannot do so,” he said. “Only the Supreme Judicial Council can.”

He also said that he will notify the prosecutor general of the media that has enforced the gag order that was issued in October.

Idris is investigating fraud allegations in the final run-offs between Ahmed Shafiq and Mohamed Morsy during the 2012 presidential election.
