Iran fires 40 missiles in 17th wave of ‘Operation True Promise 4’ retaliatory campaign

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intensified its retaliatory campaign early Wednesday, launching the 17th wave of Operation True Promise 4.

According to the Tasnim news agency, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force deployed more than 40 missiles targeting joint US-Israeli positions.

The IRGC’s public relations wing confirmed the strike in an official statement.

It emphasized that these strikes are a direct response to the massive US-Israeli offensive that began on Saturday—a campaign that resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, his wife, and several high-ranking military commanders.

A response to ‘Operation Epic Fury’

The current conflict, which began on February 28, was initiated by a joint US-Israeli operation designated by the Pentagon as Operation Epic Fury.

US President Donald Trump characterized the offensive as “massive and ongoing,” aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile capabilities.

Parallel to the military action, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu framed the offensive as a mission to eliminate an “existential threat,” while calling on the Iranian public to seize the moment to destabilize the current regime.

Diplomatic collapse

This escalation follows the total breakdown of Omani-mediated nuclear negotiations.

Tensions reached a breaking point after President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the diplomatic pace, leading to the largest military confrontation in the region since the 12-day war in June 2025.
