A member of the media center at the General Authority for Meteorology, Mahmoud Al-Qiyati, clarified during a phone-in on the ‘Sabah Al Balad’ program that: ‘We cannot confirm yet that the coming winter will be the coldest, as we are still in autumn and there is still time before winter.”
He added that indicators for the overall weather expected in September show that temperatures will likely be around the normal rates or one degree higher at most.
Al-Qiyati also mentioned that September might witness temperatures higher than the average on some days, confirming that the the General Authority for Meteorology is currently working on extracting the main features of this year’s autumn.
Once completed, a detailed statement will be issued explaining all the details.
Regarding current weather conditions, Al-Qiyati said that the weather is witnessing the Azores High pressure center, accompanied by moderate air masses, along with an extension of a low-pressure system in the upper layers of the atmosphere.
This leads to the formation of light clouds during scattered periods of the day over the northern part of the country, and works to lower temperatures.
