Israel confirms preparations to open Rafah Crossing for personnel movement; aid excluded

The Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories (COGAT), a unit of the Israeli military, announced on Thursday that preparations are underway with Egypt to open the Rafah Crossing for the movement of individuals, though the exact opening date will be announced later.

However, the COGAT stressed that humanitarian aid “will not pass through the Rafah Crossing,” noting instead that aid “continues to enter the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom Crossing and additional crossings,” according to media reports.

Earlier, Reuters news agency, citing two sources, reported that the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip was expected to reopen for passenger traffic with the return of an EU border monitoring mission.
