Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Saturday criticized the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, accusing the UN of being “anti-Semitic and anti-Israel” and claiming that Guterres harbors and encourages terrorism under his leadership.
Katz’s comments came after the UN Secretary-General urged Israel to allow “full and unrestricted humanitarian access to all parts of Gaza.”
In a statement on the X platform (formerly Twitter), Katz accused Guterres of “criticizing Israel without condemning Hamas terrorists who plunder humanitarian aid in any way, without condemning the UNRWA, which cooperates with terrorists, and without calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages.”
Earlier on Saturday, Guterres called for the “immediate release of all hostages” and an “immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds.”
He urged UN member states to support the UNRWA, and added that his organization would continue to work with Egypt to facilitate the flow of aid to Gaza.
“People around the world are outraged by the atrocities we are all witnessing in real time… I carry the voices of the vast majority of the world: we have seen enough. We have had enough. We still believe that human dignity should define who we are as a global community because it is our only hope, and I would like the Palestinians in Gaza to know: you are not alone,” he said.
“There is a clear consensus among the international community that Israeli ground intervention in Rafah in southern Gaza would be a humanitarian disaster.”
