Some 13 percent of the Israeli army's civilian employees are Egyptian nationals, according to recent reports in the Israeli media.
Abu Bakr al-Guindy, head of Egypt's official statistics bureau CAPMAS, said that most Egyptians living in Israel were illegal laborers. “For this reason, it's difficult for us to determine their exact number,” he said.
According to estimates by the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower, there are between 20,000 and 25,000 Egyptians currently living in Israel.
“I don’t blame the Egyptians who went to live and work in Israel,” said Egyptian Trade Union Secretary-General Ibrahim al-Azhary. “There simply aren’t enough jobs for them here.”
