Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto confirmed on Thursday that his country will arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he comes to Italy.
Crosetto said in an interview reported by Italian media: “If Netanyahu comes to Italy, we will have to arrest him.”
This came after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants earlier on Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The ICC has charged Netanyahu and Gallant with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The court added that the crimes attributed to Netanyahu and Galant include the use of starvation as a weapon, noting that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the duo oversaw attacks against civilians.
The ICC stressed that Israel’s acceptance of the court’s jurisdiction is not necessary.
