Jennifer Lawrence linked with ‘Red Sparrow’ thriller

Joining the spy novel adaptation means Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence would reteam with "The Hunger Games" director.

"Red Sparrow" is based on the 2013 Jason Matthews novel about a young Russian agent who is sent to undermine the efforts of her CIA equivalent.

She then ends up being recruited by the US intelligence agency, tasked with tracking down one of her country's own moles; Matthews himself served for over 30 years at Langley.

Director Francis Lawrence (no relation) helmed "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" as well as franchise conclusion "Part 2," due from November 20.

An adapted script for "Red Sparrow" had been provided by Eric Warren, who worked on another Jennifer Lawrence film in "American Hustle," with Justin Haythe of "Revolutionary Road" on rewriting duties, according to Deadline.

The deal is yet to go through but both Lawrences are thought to have been approached for the adaptation.
