Journalists Syndicate monitors violations against reporters at polling stations

On the second day of the presidential elections, the Journalists Syndicate monitored violations against reporters in Cairo and other governorates.

Syndicate Undersecretary Alaa Thabet said that a reporter from Al-Shorouk newspaper in Mansoura was not allowed to cover the voting process in the Fakhr Eddin polling station, although he had a permit from the High Elections Committee.

Meanwhile, Al-Ahram reporter Hassan Saad was not allowed to take pictures in the Lozy polling station.

Thabet also said that the judge of Al-Tor polling station in Sinai did not allow Ashraf Abdel Zaher from Al-Gomhouria newspaper, Fayza Mersal from Youm7 and Ayman Abu Zeid from Al-Masry Al-Youm to take pictures.

He added that a polling station director in Warraq accused journalist Emad Abu Gabal of entering the ladies committee.

“He was detained for four days pending investigation,” Thabet said. “The syndicate is requesting the interior ministry to release him."

He said a judge took away the camera of Iman Allam of Youm7  after she refused to dip her finger in the phosphoric ink.

The syndicate also said that turnout until Tuesday noon was low.
