Minister of Transitional Justice and National Reconciliation Mohamed Amin al-Mahdy has spoken of his intention to resign just three weeks after taking the post, high-profile sources have revealed.
The source added that Mahdy had criticised the government of neglecting his ministry. The minister postponed his resignation until he received a response from the government regarding proposals for justice and national reconciliation legislation, the source said.
The source claimed that the Cabinet would study Mahdy's proposals.
The minister, however, has said suggestions concerning his resignation are premature.
He told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he attended a ministerial meeting on Wednesday, declining to comment on speculation he is dissatisfied with the place of his ministry within government.
Mahdy was originally nominated for the Justice Ministry, but was rejected by the Judges Club.
He was later named minister of transitional justice.
