Karama Party requests HEC to investigate Mehleb’s alleged meeting with Sisi

The Karama Party, which supports presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi, requested the High Elections Committee (HEC) to conduct an urgent investigation into an alleged meeting between Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb and presidential candidate Abdel Fattah al-Sisi a few days ago to discuss the future of the government if he wins the elections.

The party also requested the committee to deal with Sisi in accordance to the law.

The party said in a statement on Monday that state officials, who are overseeing the elections, should not meet with any candidate. “This casts suspicion on the integrity of the elections,” the statement said, adding that certain officials have already announced their support to Sisi.

“This is a blatant bias,” said spokesperson Ahmed Atef. “But we will run in the elections to expose the government.”

Cabinet had denied what was reported by Al-Masry Al-Youm about Mehleb meeting with Sisi to discuss the future of the government.

The paper claimed that the prime minister is considering to form new ministries and separate certain others in case Sisi wins.

It said Sisi emphasized the need for a ministry to oversee the public enterprise sector, given its importance to the economy.
