The Kenyan government on Tuesday officially announced it would sign the Nile Basin Framework Agreement.
At a press conference, Kenyan Water Resources Minister Charity Neglio said she would sign the agreement and send it to parliament for approval, after which it would be sent to Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki for signature.
Neglio is scheduled to visit Cairo on 22 May with Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Both are expected to meet with President Hosni Mubarak.
Kenya’s assistant minister for water resources said that Egyptian officials had met with Kibaki last week, who had told them that he would approve any decision taken by his cabinet.
He went on to say that Odinga and Neglio would discuss several issues of mutual interest–other than the Nile Basin–with Mubarak.
