The Kuwaiti embassy in Cairo commented on video clips shared online of an alleged “assault” against Kuwaiti students in a commercial complex in Alexandria, stating that what happened was a quarrel between a group of students.
The embassy said in a statement: “With regard to the videotape that was circulated on social media, what happened was a quarrel between a group of Kuwaiti students studying there in a commercial complex, which resulted in some minor injuries.”
“The compound’s security personnel intervened to dismantle it, and the embassy and the cultural attache in Alexandria are currently following up on the investigation with the competent authorities,” it added.
“The embassy, while regretting what happened, expresses its dissatisfaction with such actions that were taken by some of its students, and calls for adherence to the laws and regulations in force in Egypt.”
In a separate statement later, the embassy said: “The quarrel occurred at dawn on Saturday, January 7, 2023, between Kuwaiti students in a commercial complex in Alexandria.”
It added: “As a result of the contact made by the embassy with the competent officials of the Egyptian investigation authorities, out of concern for the safety and security of its students studying there, and to ensure good treatment for them, all Kuwaiti students were released this afternoon.”
“The Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Cairo renews its call to all its students studying in Egypt to abide by the laws and regulations in force there,” the statement concluded.
