Aswan's Lake Nasser produced 23 percent more fish – a total of 18,000 tons – from May 2010 to June 2011 compared to the 12 months before, according to Governor Mostafa al-Sayyid.
Five tons will be distributed on a daily basis to local markets and consumer cooperatives, Sayyid said.
Ten additional tons will be offered daily for sale in various governorates through a marketing company, he added.
The governor ordered stricter security measures to prevent fish smuggling and is binding the provision of boat licenses with the effort.
He said he had given a two-month deadline for the renewal of work permits for the 3000 boats operating on the lake.
