Mohamed Hammouda, lawyer of disbanded National Democratic Party figure Ahmed Ezz, said his client’s meetings with workers are proceeding normal, adding that he cannot confirm or deny if Ezz is going to run for the coming parliamentary elections or not.
The lawyer described running for elections as “legal and constitutional right granted for him [Ezz]. The coming days will show if the news are correct or not.”
Several media reports said that Ezz decided to run for elections as per requests by people at his electoral constituency to represent them at parliament. During his meeting with workers of Al-Gawhara ceramic plant, located in Sadat city, Ezz offered free transportation for university students as well as other services, which were welcomed by the workers.
Ezz was involved in three lawsuits of profiteering, money laundering and steel monopoly upon the 2011 revolution, which unseated former President Hosni Mubarak who ruled Egypt for 30 years. However, court of cassation overturned verdicts made by criminal court against him ordering retrial, which led to his release. The cassation court verdict is considered a main base that puts Ezz in a proper legal situation which would qualify him for the coming parliamentary elections.
