Under the Egyptian government’s initiative to develop the country's poorest villages, LE150 million has been allocated to boost basic services in 373 villages spread around seven governorates, including Beheira, Sharqeya, Minya, Sohag, Assiut, Luxor, and Qena. The spending is part of the project’s second phase, said Minister of Local Development Abdel Salam Mahgoub.
The minister said the funding includes LE54.3 million for paving roads and linking village entrances to main roads, along with LE42.8 million for electricity and lighting, LE7.9 million for covered drainage within housing areas, and LE45 million for the construction of municipal quarters and social service units. Sohag and Minya will receive the biggest share of the money.
Mahgoub said the ministry’s local development fund will provide financial support for small projects in each village, including enterprises in the fields of animal production, carpet making, and agricultural automation.
