Liverpool well aware of ‘outstanding’ Man United: Salah

Egyptian and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah said before meeting Manchester United on Sunday that his team was well aware of the outstanding performance of Manchester, which has not been defeated in the last nine matches of the English Premier League since appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the coach of the team in December.

According to Liverpool’s official website on Thursday, Salah clarified, “They are unbeaten in their last nine [league] games, so they are in a good way and they want to win against us” in Sunday’s game between the two teams.

“Everyone knows about Liverpool and Manchester United. They have good players – even before they won their last 10 games, they have had very good players from the beginning of the season,” he added.

“They have a good team and now they are winning, winning, winning, so they have confidence, but at the end of the day we want to win the game. Whoever we play against, we want to win the game.”

Salah asserted, “As I’ve said before, for me, the record is not that important…being the top scorer is important, but it never counts as No.1 – the Premier League is No.1.”

“I hope I can score [Premier League goal numbers] 50, 51, 52… but the most important thing is to win [our] game,” he pointed out.

Salah won the Premier League Player of the Month for January, beating Manchester United trio Paul Pogba, David de Gea and Marcus Rashford as well as Leroy Sane of Manchester City and Troy Deeney of Watford.

Salah joined Liverpool in four games in January, scoring three goals and leading his team to maintain the top of the English Premier League table.

Salah previously won the African Football Confederation (CAF) award for the Best Player of the Year 2018.

He was also awarded the Golden Boot award, as well as the Premier League Player of the Season title after an unforgettable debut season with Liverpool.

Salah finished third in the 2018 European Footballer of the Year list by the European Football Federation (UEFA).

Dubbed the “Egyptian King”, he won the Football Supporters’ Federation’s (FSF) Men’s Player of the Year award for 2018 on December 4.

Salah was also announced the winner of a fan’s poll that attracted over 366,000 votes during a December 3 ceremony in London, Liverpool reported on its official website.
