A London coroner stated at an inquest on Wednesday that there was no evidence of suspicious circumstances regarding the death of an Egyptian diplomat, the UK newspaper the Daily Mail reported on Thursday.
Ayman Mohamed Fayed, 41, died 14 January after falling off of the roof of the Egyptian embassy in London. According to witnesses, he was attempting to commit suicide, but changed his mind and tried to climb back through the third floor window. He slipped and fell to his death, the coroner found, according to the Daily Mail.
A statement by Kamla Badawi, who worked for the commercial arm of the embassy in the building across the road, said that she initially witnessed Fayed attempting to climb back through the window and thought that he was a burglar. As she went inside to contact the embassy, he fell to his death.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed the incident to Al-Masry Al-Youm, but could not divulge details about Fayed or the case without a formal written request.
Investigations by London police concluded that Fayed had planned to attempt suicide because he had left a note on his office desk that said, “Look after the children.” Fayed lived with his wife and three children in west London.
The coroner stated that she could not be sure whether Fayed fell or jumped because there was no actual witness to the fall. She added, though, that there was no suspicion surrounding the cause of his death.
