Low turnout of expats in election run-offs

The run-off for the first phase of the parliamentary elections started on Monday in 139 polling stations throughout 123 countries.

Adel al-Alfi, Egypt's consul in Saudi Arabia, said turnout was less than average on the first day, with only 500 people voting. “We cannot judge as yet because the first round had 6,000 voters,” he said.

Ayman Mosharafa, Egypt's ambassador to Tunisia, also said that turnout was low, attributing it to the fact that it was a weekday where people go to work.

Khaled Tharwat, Egypt's ambassador to Jordan, said the low turnout was due to bad weather.

Europe and Asia also had a low turnout.
