The head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, Taha Rabah, confirmed on Wednesday that the national network of earthquake monitoring stations affiliated with the institute recorded an earthquake 10 kilometers southeast of Cairo.
Rabah explained in press statements that the earthquake occurred due to construction work near the Basatin area.
He indicated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 1.9 on the Richter scale, noting that the institute had not received any reports of casualties or property damage as a result of the earthquake.
