Large crowds gathered at the Manpower Ministry, as youth looking for jobs headed to the ministry, which declared 82,000 job opportunities. However, they expressed disappointment describing the move as ‘deception to calm the public.’
Sayyed Abdel Latif, a retired army officer, said most of the jobs are at governorates of Upper Egypt, Sinai and Sharm al-Sheikh, with no jobs in Cairo. Salaries range between LE500-LE700, considering that ministry announcement as ‘media show that has no value,’ he added indicating that he applied for a job at the ministry’s labor office, but no one contacted him.
Ihab Ezz Eddin, holding a bachelor of law, wondered, “Where are the jobs? Most of them are craft-related in far away workplaces with small salaries that will all be spent on transportation.”
“After I filled in the application, the ministry’s employee told me: ‘Choose between, cashier, security guard or salesperson at Carrefour,’” he added.
Ahmed Adel, tour guide, said, “All the jobs opportunities are security guards and crafts that require experience. All those looking for jobs are unemployed youth, so how would they be experienced? Moreover, the salaries are small.”
Yehia al-Sayyed, holding bachelor of commerce, pointed to the posts of jobs on the wall, saying, “A secretary, with experience in banking, is needed in Sohag for LE400 salary. An executive chief post is vacant for LE750.” He wondered out loud, “Where are the jobs?”
