Mayar Sherif rose to 40th in the women’s singles world rankings, the highest position of her career and becoming the highest-ranked Egyptian female player in history.
The Egyptian Tennis Federation praised Sherif’s achievement.
They shared a picture of the 27-year-old player and captioned “a new record”, accompanied by personal statistics about the player and her new classification.
Sherif’s great progress came after winning the Makarska Championship title in Croatia on Sunday.
Sherif, who reached the second round at the French Open last month, was the first Egyptian to win a professional women’s title when she was crowned with the Parma Ladies Open championship last year.
The President of the Egyptian Tennis Federation Ismail al-Shafei expressed his pride at Sherif’s achievement.
Shafei said, “I expect Sherif to advance more and more in the world ranking, and next week she will have a clay court tournament through which she can achieve good results that will put her in a better ranking.”
“I believe that Sherif is able to advance further in the world rankings, and her technical capabilities and training plans will help her a lot,” he added.
He said that Sherif is training well with her Spanish coach, and that the Egyptian Federation is following her closely.
