MB parliamentary candidates arrested for using religious slogans

Police have arrested 24 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentary candidates for using religiously-themed campaign slogans in violation of rules laid down by the state-run High Elections Commission, security sources said on Wednesday.

Egypt will hold nationwide parliamentary elections on 28 November.

The candidates were arrested in four different governorates while hanging electoral posters bearing religious slogans.

“We haven't yet launched our electoral campaign,“ said MB Secretary for 6 October City Helmy al-Gazzar. “We will abide by the rules established by the elections commission.”

Al-Gazzar declined to comment on whether or not the group planned to use its traditional slogan, “Islam is the Solution."
