In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the world of cinema, the organizers of the MedFest Egypt Film Festival have chosen to honor the renowned Jordanian actress Saba Mubarak.
The award ceremony will take place during the sixth edition of the festival, scheduled to be held from September 12th to 15th at the American University in Cairo, Tahrir Square.
MedFest Forum founder and director, Mina El-Naggar, stated, “We are glad to honor Jordanian actress and producer Saba Mubarak with the Forum Award, which is annually granted to iconic cinematic figures who contribute to the development of cinema. Saba is a Jordanian actress with a successful career in cinema, television, and theater across the Arab world”.
Mubarak’s talent has resonated deeply with Arab audiences, particularly Egyptians, through her carefully chosen roles.
Her ability to portray authentic emotions has captured hearts across the region. She has often explored the complex theme of ‘relationships,’ which aligns perfectly with the focus of this year’s MedFest Egypt.
The festival’s programming team, Nadine Emile and Ahmed Nabil, emphasized that each edition of MedFest features a specific theme reflected in the participating films, and ‘relationships’ is the central theme of this year’s competition.
They added, “Human relationships are rich and complex. Hence, it is hard to tackle human relationships in all their kinds, deal with them, or delve into them. Through cinema, one can identify the details of these relationships and examine them on screen”.
MedFest Egypt, a pioneering international short film forum in the Arab world, is dedicated to shedding light on pressing health and social issues.
Curating a selection of thought-provoking international short films, MedFest fosters insightful discussions on the films’ themes and perspectives from the audience’s vantage point.
Additionally, the festival organizes panel discussions and symposia on health and film throughout the year, providing a comprehensive platform for dialogue and exploration.
