Ambassador Mervat Tallawy, Director General of the Arab Women's Organization, signed a memorandum of understanding at the headquarters of the organization on Tuesday with Mohamed al-Nassery, representative of the United Nations body for women in Egypt, in an effort to create a safe society free from all forms of violence against Arab women.
Tallawy said the memorandum of understanding includes the launch of a range of joint activities between the two sides, most importantly the implementation of several programs aimed at the protection of Arab women from all forms of violence against them, especially with the escalation of violence against Arab women recently.
She added that the memorandum of understanding includes activating the role of Arab women in the establishment of security and peace, especially in countries experiencing armed conflicts and wars, such as Syria, Yemen and Iraq.
The director of the organization said that the entire international community has become aware of the power of the women's role in the fight against terrorism and peacemaking, as reflected in the UN Security Council resolution no.1325 of 2000, which emphasized the role of women in peacemaking and conflict prevention and urged countries to include women in all decision-making processes.
She noted that the memorandum of understanding includes the preparation of accurate in-depth studies and statistics and regularly exchanging information, strategic analysis and assessments in order to improve cooperation in the protection of women from violence.
