Microsoft fires Moroccan employee for expressing solidarity with Gaza

The Associated Press reported that Microsoft has fired Moroccan engineer Ibtihal Abusaad after she protested the company’s provision of artificial intelligence technology to the Israeli military.

Abusaad is a Moroccan engineer and programmer born in 1999. She graduated from Harvard University, specialized in artificial intelligence, and worked for Microsoft.

At a ceremony marking the company’s 50th anniversary, Abusaad protested and denounced what she called Microsoft’s “collusion” with Israel by harnessing its artificial intelligence tools to serve the Israeli military.
