Mido named new Zamalek coach, replacing unsuccessful Paqueta

Zamalek Sports Club on Sunday named Ahmed (Mido) Hossam as the football team's new coach, an expected move following the team's poor results under the leadership of Brazil's Marcos Paqueta.

The decision came hours after Zamalek, ranking fourth in the league, secured a last-minute 2-2 draw with chart leaders Misr LelMakkasa, the fifth encounter the team went through under Paqueta, who was appointed in early December. Zamalek won two matches, lost two and came to a draw during Paqueta's brief stint as coach.

Mido, a former Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax Amsterdam striker, quit as coach for Ismaily two weeks ago. He coached Zamalek during the 2014 premier league season but left in the middle of the competition after losing hope in scoring the title, which was later won by arch rivals al-Ahly. However, Mido managed to win the Egypt Cup title for the team.

Mido is the second coach to come in after Portugal's Jesualdo Ferreira, who won Zamalek its first league title in 11 years, left surprisingly and moved to Qatar in November, reportedly over management disagreements with the club’s chief Mortada Mansour.
