Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) decided on Tuesday to form a judicial panel to investigate reports filed against former President Hosni Mubarak and his family.
The Egyptian news agency MENA reported the panel will be headed by Assem al-Gohari, director of the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA), adding that the panel will adopt all legal measures required to handle Mubaraks' alleged properties, movable assets and offshore bank accounts.
The panel will also seek to obtain warrants necessary to prevent Mubarak and his family from getting rid of their possessions, and to follow up on relevant previous freezing orders.
Revolution groups declared on Tuesday their intent to protest in Tahrir Square to demand immediate prosecution of the Mubaraks and former regime figures.
Egypt's prosecution has been investigating reports that accuse the Mubaraks of corruption. Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud said on Monday that Mubarak has not been officially charged.
On 28 February, Mahmoud banned the Mubaraks from travel and froze the former president's local and offshore bank accounts.
