A military court on Monday ordered ex-Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif to be detained for 15 days, pending investigations into charges of corruption, the official Middle East News Agency reported.
Nazif has been accused of seizing state-owned land and squandering public money. It is the first time for a member of ousted President Hosni Mubarak's regime to face military investigators.
Military prosecutors interrogated Nazif for nearly two hours, a military source said. HE was investigated along with the former Luxor Governor Samir Farag and businessman Mamdouh Qoleib.
A military source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Nazif was investigated before a military court because the disputed land lies within the military’s properties.
Earlier this month, Nazif was given a one-year suspended sentence for making unlawful gains in a business deal worth LE92 million.
