Industry and Trade Minister Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour banned the import of battery-operated laser pointers whose strength exceed 5 MW, according a statement on their website.
The decision aims to establish controls on the use of laser pens, which are often used in a harmful way to citizens and air traffic, said the minister in a statement Thursday.
Several meetings have been held between the National Research Center, the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality and the National Institute of Laser Science to determine the specifications of laser pens so as not to represent danger to air traffic and citizens who are exposed to it, according to the minister.
