A tiny Gulf country gave a well-known Egyptian association LE181 million in February to try to undermine the stability of Egyptian society, Justice Minister Abdel Aziz al-Guindi has claimed in Monday's state-run Al-Ahram newspaper.
He said it is illegitimate for the unidentified association to receive any funds or grants.
Guindi added that he has received a report showing that several neighboring countries offered millions of pounds to Egyptian human rights and civil society organizations, some of which are not registered.
He said he has submitted a report to the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the prime minister to take appropriate action against the funding.
He said that the cabinet will announce the findings of the report within the next few days.
Guindi added that foreign – as well as local – elements are behind recent outbreaks of violence in Egypt, seeking to sabotage state institutions, undermine national security and intimidate citizens.
There are other countries in the region that fear the breakout of similar revolutions, he said.
