Transportation Minister Hany Dahy said he is expecting Sadat metro stop to be opened before the holy month of Ramadan, which is scheduled to begin by mid-June.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm on Sunday, Dahy said the fire engine units at the stop are being developed as per instructions of civil protection.
“My expectations is that the metro stop will be opened before Ramadan after finalizing the new system of civil protection and surveillance cameras,” he added.
The pivotal metro transfer station, which has been closed since ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013, was said to have reopened several times but never was.
Officials argued the station had to be closed to prevent protesters from using the metro stop as a base for protests, as was the case before Morsi's ouster.
The closure of Sadat has forced many commuters to go out of their way and transfer at Shohadaa, causing unprecedented crowding. Many women have also reported the rise in foot traffic has consequentially increased cases of sexual harassment and assault.
