Minister says Cabinet still has powers

Planning and International Cooperation Minister Fayza Abouelnaga has said she does not believe the Cabinet will transform into a caretaker government.

She said the Cabinet still has its full powers, despite MPs’ threat to issue a vote of no confidence.

At a joint news conference with the governor of Port Said and the transportation minister, following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri to discuss the problems in Port Said, Abouelnaga denied that tensions exist between Parliament and the Cabinet.

She said ministers are participating in parliamentary sessions and that she will attend a session to answer some questions submitted by People’s Assembly members.

Abouelnaga said she hopes MPs from the Freedom and Justice Party will participate in the Cabinet meetings.
