Minister of Agriculture Ayman Farid Abu Hadeed said 75 million kg of high quality fertilizers are ready for use during the wheat cultivation season.
He added that this quantity should cover 40 percent of the amount of land to be cultivated, up seven percent from last year.
In statements to the press on Thursday, he added that the fertilizers should help cultivate 4.62 million square km. The fertilizers were produced by the ministry and other private companies.
Eighteen types of wheat will be grown this season, he added.
The minister said that these improved fertilizers will increase Egypt’s wheat production by 750 million kg, adding that Egypt’s wheat production is projected to total 9 billion kg this season.
The minister also said that he has tasked concerned authorities with intensifying their guidance campaigns to raise the awareness of farmers of the importance of using the fertilizers approved by the ministry and of increasing the amount of land grown with wheat from 13.02 million square km last year to 13.44 million square km to limit imports.
