Backtracking on a previous statement, the Interior Ministry has admitted to arresting a young man from his wedding, attributing the incident to the detainee’s involvement in violence against security forces.
The ministry’s media office said Thursday that Badr al-Gamal was a member of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. It added that he is accused of shooting at a police department in the province’s Asafra district.
Al-Gamal was kidnapped from a convoy of well-wishers when security agents allegedly blocked their way.
“I was driving the bride and groom’s car…we were surprised when a microbus and police vehicle intercepted our way…pointing guns at us…they took Badr in the microbus,” Abdel Rahman Ali, the bride’s brother, told Al-Masry Al-Youm. “We are totally stunned.”
