Tareq Fouda, head of Minya’s lawyers syndicate, said he was not in charge of defending any of the Muslim Brotherhood defendants in the lawsuit known as ‘Brotherhood Death Sentences’ for him to be fined for not attending the trials.
He added that he, along with another 27 lawyers, were referred to a disciplinary board.
Fouda said that the court division which handed down the verdict does not have power to refer lawyers to a disciplinary board, adding that the decision will yield nothing.
The court, which gave the death sentence to 37 Muslim Brotherhood members and a life in prison sentence to another 49, also fined 28 lawyers LE50 each and ordered them be referred to a disciplinary board.
The court added that the lawyers abstained from defending their clients.
