Liverpool striker and Egyptian national team player Mohamed Salah will wear the captain’s armband in Egypt’s first game against Angola and Gabon in the first and second round matches of the African qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Team coach Hossam el-Badri decided in April to hand the captaincy to Salah after the team qualified for the African Cup of Nations finals, which will be held in Cameroon next year.
Salah wore the armband during Egypt’s qualifying match against Comoros in which the Pharaohs dominated 4-0.
The football star has scored 45 goals with Egypt’s national team since starting with them in 2011.
Egypt is in Group F of the African qualifiers for the World Cup, which includes Angola, Gabon, and Libya.
