The Health Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that 1,109 private medical facilities in 21 different governorates have been closed down in the first quarter of 2015 due to violations and irregularities.
The statement specified the facilities lacked proper licenses, were inadequately equipped and failed to apply sanitary control programs.
The ministry gave an ultimatum for the facilities to correct the irregularities before they were closed down.
In Beheira, 207 facilities were closed, followed by 125 in Dakahlia, another 125 in Qalyubiya, 117 in Minya, 113 in Cairo, 96 in Beni Suef, 86 in Giza, 75 in Sharqiya, 43 in Damietta, 29 in Assiut, 26 in Fayoum, 18 in Gharbiya, 14 in Sohag, 14 in the Red Sea governorate, 7 in Marsa Matrouh, 4 in Ismailia, 4 in the New Valley governorate, 3 in Luxor and one in Qena, Menoufia and South Sinai, while none were closed in North Sinai, Aswan, Alexandria, Suez and Kafr El-Sheikh.
