More than 100,000 expatriate Egyptians have voted in the first phase of the elections, which began on Wednesday, said Assistant Minister for Consular and Expatriate Egyptians' Affairs Ahmed Ragheb.
He said that consulates will begin vote counting on Monday and the higher elections commission will be notified of the result.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said it is not responsible for any obstacles that voters abroad may have encountered.
Ragheb told Al-Masry Al-Youm that embassies and consulates overseas have been extremely busy over the past three days.
He added that expatriates only complained about the short period of time for which voting was open and asked for extending the duration of the election, a demand which has been satisfied.
He said that Egypt’s embassies and consulates abroad will continue to receive votes by regular mail until 12 pm.
