The spokesperson for the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Egypt, Mohamed al-Shazly, announced that Mortada Mansour is no longer the president for Zamalek, according to a Monday report by the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper
He added that Zamalek club is preparing to appoint an acting president in the coming days.
The ministry sent a letter to Zamalek SC on Friday, to implement the decision to dismiss Mansour and appoint an acting club president, he said.
Shazly indicated that the ministry is proceeding with procedures for implementing the decision, and is awaiting Zamalek’s response.
He explained that the board of directors of Zamalek SC is currently managing the club, and Mansour is barred from issuing any decisions under the club’s name.
“According to the regulations, an acting president of the club must be appointed until the date of the nearest general assembly,” he concluded.
The Ministry Sports announced last month the implementation of the ruling issued by the Administrative Court in Cairo against Mansour.
The ruling was to remove him from the position of chairing the board of directors of Zamalek Sporting Club.
The court’s ruling aimed to “remove the status” of Mansour after accepting a lawsuit filed by two former members of the Zamalek board of directors and others to demand his removal.
This came after he was imprisoned for a month, on charges of insulting and defaming Al-Ahly Sporting Club President Mahmoud al-Khatib.
Mansour was imprisoned for one month, from February 25 to March 25, on charges of insulting and defaming Al-Ahly Sporting Club President Mahmoud al-Khatib.
