The controversial lawyer and former parliamentarian, Mortada Mansour, won the presidency of Zamalek Club, one of the most prominent sports clubs in Egypt, in elections held on Friday.
Mansour outperformed his nearest competitor by more than 11,000 votes.
The committee supervising the Zamalek club elections announced that the total votes are 74,000, and the valid votes are 37,000.
Mansour received 21,000, Omar Jalal Haridi, 958, and Ahmed Salmian, a direct contender for the presidential seat against Mansour, received 9,000 votes.
The committee has said that the number of members entitled to vote in the club’s elections is 112,877, while the quorum is complete with the votes of 7,500 members.
MansourĀ held the presidency of Zamalek and a seat in the House of Representatives, and lost them all in 2020, before regaining Zamalek presidency through court ruling in October 2021.
In November 2020, Mansour lost his reelection to parliament after coming in sixth in the Mit Ghamr race. He claimed the elections were rigged and had appealed the results in court.
