Parliamentary representative for North Sinai Hossam Shahin denied having accused Bedouin tribesmen of the central Sinai Peninsula of smuggling arms to Palestinian resistance group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Shahin insisted that his name had been mentioned by mistake during a 17 January parliamentary session in which officials had called for beefed up security in Sinai.
"I know my people would never do such a thing," he said, in reference to the Sinai Bedouin. "Let alone the fact that they have no common borders with the Gaza Strip."
