Mubarak to Attend 3 Summits, a Graduation Ceremony

President Hosni Mubarak is scheduled to be present in three key meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

Egypt’s president will also witness the graduation ceremony at the Military Technical College.

Barakat el-Farra, Palestine’s ambassador to Egypt, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the meetings with Abbas and Netanyahu are related.

In a relevant context, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated that Israel must allow for a third party to protect the borders of the future Palestinian state. He also asked Israel to compensate his people for the land it has seized for settlements.

Meanwhile, the Arab League announced that secretary general, Amr Moussa, will convene today with both the Somali president and the US Middle East envoy, George Mitchell. Sources said that information about Moussa’s meeting with Mahmoud Abbas are still unclear. The same sources confirmed that relations between the League and the Palestinian Authority have cooled due to recent remarks by Moussa about its rival faction, Hamas.

The head of Fatah’s parliamentary bloc, Azzam al-Ahmad, expressed amazement at comments made by Moussa during his visit with Hamas’s leader, Khaled Meshaal, in Damascus. Moussa blamed both Fatah and Hamas for the failure to achieve a reconciliation.

The meeting with Sheikh Sharif will address the situation in Somalia, plus cooperation between Cairo and Mogadishu.
