The Justice Ministry is investigating accusations that former President Hosni Mubarak, his sons Gamal and Alaa and his wife Suzanne bought 64 acres in the city of Belbeis in Sharqiya for five piasters per meter instead of LE6.
The investigating judge tasked an Illicit Gains Authority committee and the public funds authority with inspecting the land and the sales contract for violations.
The head of the Court of Cassation, Ahmed Idris, opened an investigation after the authorities received a report that the family of the ousted president bought land from a cooperative association in Belbeis for LE200 an acre.
The investigation would also focus on the seizure of 10-acre land plots from the Ahmed Orabi Agricultural Cooperative Society for Land Reclamation and Development which were allegedly used for villas, pools and gardens instead of agriculture.
The investigation would include lands from the two cooperative societies and will include the sale procedures, land inspection, prices and contract violations.
