Interrogations of Egypt's former President Hosni Mubarak and his sons, Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, will resume in Cairo on Tuesday, according to state-run media. They will be investigated by the Illicit Gains Authority on profiteering charges. All three are already under investigation for attacking protesters.
Egypt's public prosecution ordered Wednesday that the president be detained for 15 days pending investigations into corruption and other allegations. But Mubarak is confined at a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh after suffering a heart attack. Medical reports said the 83-year-old's health deteriorated during the interrogation. He has been under house arrest in Sharm el-Sheikh since his resignation on 11 February.
Mubarak's sons were transported to Tora Prison Wednesday. Both Mubarak and sons are facing charges of profiteering, abuse of power and involvement in the killing of protesters during the 25 January revolution.
Mubarak reportedly told interrogators that he had planned to leave office on the fourth day of the popular uprising, but officials close to him, including Chief of Staff Zakaria Azmy, convinced him that the protesters were only demanding a cabinet reshuffle.
